Upper Canada Bird Sanctuary - 25 Oct 2009

(Left) An old walkway on the closed part of the trail.  As soon as I seen the closed trail I just had to go down it ;-)

(Right) Just playing around with an old log trying to have sharp at the front and blurred at the back, didn't really turn out the way I wanted it.

Yes I went to a bird sanctuary and took pictures of a snake.

See, I did find a bird eventually.

Round Schooner Lake - Sept 2009

Last Sept visited Round Schooner Lake on what was probably the best weekend of the entire summer.  The weather was amazing.  Spent 3 days and 2 nights recharging the batteries ;-)  Click the images for a larger view.

A young bald eagle that was in the area throughout the weekend.  Had to digitally zoom in a fair amount so there is some rough edges.

I'll admit, this one is actually a cheat.  Two exposures, one for the moon another for the water and then I blended them together.  This is what I saw with my naked eye ;-)  Like I said, a wonderful weekend on so many levels.

Took some panorama shots that day and I see I still haven't tried to stitch them together.  I'll give it a try and see if I can get a usable image.  There is a massive cliff at this lake that gives an amazing view from the top.  Panorama is really the only way to capture it.

Friday had been a very cold night causing crystals on the surrounding trees.  I was off to fix a computer for a friend and couldn't resist stopping and capturing this.  The first true blue sky we'd seen in weeks.  No filters here, a slight curves and high pass filter.

An old abandoned bridge not to far from the house.  Every now and then I can capture some interesting light here but not on this day.  Overcast and dreary.  To get the white snow I up'd the exposure to +2ev.  I think I went to far and blew out some of the areas.

The Canadian Loon;

Normally one of these two definitions will describe me at any given time.  You decide which applies.  The loon is also my spirit animal and holds a very deep place in my heart and my soul.

So starts blog number 4 over a timeframe of 6 years.  My track record with these things hasn't been the greatest but it amazes me how many people actually enjoyed my writing and have asked me to come back.  For those who just want to see my photos and not listen to me ramble about mindless crap, you can find all my images at;

Right now I'm in my winter blah's and when that happens I write for some reason.  Photography has been slow these days thanks to the weather so new pictures might be a bit slow in coming.
